Ambassador and Economic Attaché of Thailand in Chile meet with Director of InvestChile

  • During the meeting, the participants discussed the principal business opportunities Chile offers potential investors from the Asian country.

This morning, the director of InvestChile, Carlos Álvarez, and Ian Frederick, head of the agency’s Investment Promotion Division, met with Thailand’s ambassador to Chile, Saroj Thanaunti, and the Embassy’s first secretary and economic attaché, Piranaj Yvard.

During the meeting, they discussed the business opportunities that exist in the main sectors of the Chilean economy, the services that InvestChile provides for foreign investors and options for collaboration in future activities in both Chile and Thailand.

A Free Trade Agreement between the two countries came into force in November 2015 and, since then, Chile’s exports to Thailand have been growing at an annual rate of around 10%.

Ambassador Saroj Thanaunti arrived in Chile at the beginning of 2016. Prior to that, he served in the Royal Embassies of Thailand in Seoul, Mexico City and Washington D.C. as well as holding different positions in the Latin America Division and the American and South Pacific Affairs, European Affairs, and Protocol Departments of the Foreign Ministry of the Kingdom of Thailand, of which he was assistant general director (2011).
