On his last day in Germany, as part of the investment promotion tour organized by InvestChile and the Chilean embassy in the country, Minister Nicolás Grau and the agency’s director, Karla Flores, met with companies and authorities mainly specializing in innovation and development.
In the morning, and also in the company of the Chilean Ambassador, Magdalena Atria, the Secretary of State met with representatives of the SMS Group, with whom he discussed productive transformation. The German conglomerate is currently working with Grupo CAP in Chile to support the transition of the steelmaker’s operations to low-carbon production, enabling it to produce so-called “green steel”. It should be noted that CAP will develop a green hydrogen pilot plant to decarbonize its production.
Subsequently, the Secretary of State met with Dr. Marc Bovenschulte, director of the Institute of Innovation and Technology (iit), in order to hear about the German government’s priorities on industrial policies and productive linkages, as well as the implementation of the “Go Cluster” program, which supports -among other things- their development and internationalization.
In the afternoon, Minister Grau toured the site where the Berlin TXL – the Urban Tech Republic industrial and urban technology research park is being developed. Its facilities will house an intelligent residential district run by the State of Berlin which, together with other areas, will occupy a total of more than 500 hectares. At a cost of 8 billion euros, it will be a space for industry, business, innovation and science, where start-ups will be able to research, develop, produce, test and export urban technologies for the cities of the future. Around 1,000 large and small companies with 20,000 employees will operate at the site in research, development and production.
The investment promotion roadshow will continue on Thursday in Paris, where the delegation will join the presidential delegation.
