PDAC 2025: InvestChile strengthens ties and promotes mining industry investment opportunities

  • Reinforcing Chile’s position as a key mining investment destination, InvestChile’s participation in PDAC 2025 fosters strategic alliances and promotes sustainable, technological industry development.

InvestChile was an outstanding participant in the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) 2025, the world’s leading mineral exploration event in Toronto, Canada.

Over three activity-packed days, the Chilean delegation reinforced its commitment to promoting investment in sustainable mining and technology, consolidating relationships with key industry players.

PDAC’s programming, networking events and business opportunities draw approximately  30,000 attendees from over 130 countries. InvestChile  Director Karla Flores attended the event along with Mining Sector Lead Christoff Janse and the Investment Procurement Officer in Ottawa, Francisco Appelgren.

They participated in seminars, bilateral meetings, and other activities to promote the Chilean Mining Ministry’s new Portfolio of Exploration Projects, on which InvestChile collaborated.

Inauguration of the Chilean Pavilion

Chile’s participation in PDAC 2025 began with the inauguration of its pavilion, a space designed to promote the country as a mining investment destination. The ceremony brought together major sector players, including mining companies (Teck Resources Limited, Freeport-McMoRan and Anglo American) and representatives from ProChile Canada and the Chilean-Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

Among the notable attendees were Chilean Mining Minister Aurora Williams; the Chilean Ambassador to Canada Juan Carlos García Pérez de Arce; the Canadian Ambassador to Chile Karolina Guay; the President of the National Mining Society (SONAMI) Jorge Riesco Valdivieso; and CESCO Executive Director Jorge Cantallopts.

InvestChile Investment Commissioner in Canada Francisco Appelgren and Mining Sector Leader Christoff Janse represented the agency. They met with international stakeholders to discuss the potential for sustainable mining and technology investment in Chile.

Day 1: Seminar, bilateral meetings and networking

On the first day, InvestChile Director Karla Flores spoke at the “Chile: A leading destination for sustainable mining investment” seminar organized by CESCO.

Event attendees included Chile’s Mining Minister Aurora Williams, CESCO Executive President Jorge Cantallopts, CESCO Director Marcelo Olivares, Teck Resources Limited’s Chief Sustainability Officer Amparo Cornejo, Anglo American Chile’s CEO Patricio Hidalgo, President of BHP Americas Brandon Craig, Freeport-McMoRan’s Country Manager Chile Mario Larenas, Hot Chili Limited CEO Christian Easterday, ATEX Resources CEO Ben Pullinger, Mirasol Resources Ltd. CEO Timothy Heenan, Tribeca Resources CEO Dr. Paul Gow, Andean Silver CEO Tim Laneyrie, and Mineria Activa CEO Arturo Prieto.

At noon, the Chilean delegation, InvestChile and EY participated in a CEO Meeting. The InvestChile team then held a bilateral meeting with the McCarthy Tétrault law firm, followed by a meeting with the President and CEO of the Business Council of Canada, Goldy Hyder.

The day concluded with Mines and Wines, a networking event organized by CESCO.

Day 2: Round table and presentation of projects

InvestChile Director Karla Flores participated in a business roundtable with mining companies on the second day to discuss industry opportunities. McCarthy Tétrault and InvestChile organized the event.

That afternoon, the InvestChile team, including Francisco Appelgren and Christoff Janse, participated in ENAMI’s Paipote Project presentation. Attendees included Minister Williams, MSTA CANADA CEO Ryan McEachern, Financial Coordinator of the new ENAMI copper smelter Armando Valenzuela, and ENAMI CFO Ariel Azar.

The team then held a bilateral meeting with the Senior Vice President of Canadian Corporate Business at Export Development Canada (EDC), Sven List. In the evening, Francisco Appelgren and Christoff Janse attended receptions organized by Antofagasta Minerals Group and Anglo American, while Karla Flores, Minister Williams and Ambassador García Pérez de Arce attended the PDAC Gala at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.

Day 3: Bilateral meetings and strengthening ties

On the third day, the Chilean delegation held bilateral meetings to strengthen ties with key players.

The agenda included:

  • A meeting with Canadian Council for the Americas President Kenneth N. Frankel and Vice President Marta C. Blackwell to discuss bilateral cooperation opportunities
  • A meeting with the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP) Senior Managing Director for the Americas  Daniel Rossetti and Managing Director for Government & Public Affairs Marc Dupont, with whom they discussed the importance of Canadian investment in Chile and diversification across different sectors
  • A meeting with the French Government Delegate for Strategic Minerals and Metals, Benjamin Gallezot, which focused on critical minerals and supply chain collaboration
  • Lunch with Chile’s National Mining Society President Jorge Riesco Valdivieso to wrap up three days of intense mining sector investment promotion
