Investment Attaché for North America based in San Francisco

InvestChile is inviting applications for the post of Investment Attaché for North America, based in San Francisco, California. The successful candidate will be responsible for persuading companies with high-quality investment and/or reinvestment projects to choose Chile as their location. He/she must be willing to travel in North America. The post reports to InvestChile as regards its functions and administratively to the Foreign Ministry’s General Directorate of International Economic Relations (DIRECON).

Functions

  • To promote Chile, its country image and competitive attributes as an attractive destination for foreign direct investment (FDI);
  • To publicize the investment opportunities available in Chile for North American companies, according to InvestChile’s priorities in terms of sectors;
  • To carry out field work, constantly visiting potential investors, economic sector authorities, chambers of commerce, trade fairs and other events and expanding his/her network of contacts;
  • To be informed about the state and trends of factors that can affect global investment flows;
  • To provide feedback to the Agency about the design/redesign of sector-specific investment promotion strategies;
  • To organize and follow up on the promotional and other similar activities defined by the Agency;
  • To prepare reports on the tasks undertaken and update information systems related to investors;
  • To manage the international office’s resources technically and administratively;
  • To represent InvestChile in North America according to the guidelines established.

Requirement

  • Requirements for joining the public administration, Article 12 of Law N° 18.834;
  • Not to be subject to the exclusions established in Article 54 of Law N° 18.575;
  • Professional qualification representing at least 10 semesters of study, awarded by a state institution or, for foreigners, recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Relations or the University of Chile, depending on the case;
  • Academic specialization in business, economics, international trade and/or marketing;
  • Specific knowledge of the North American business ecosystem and/or the West Coast entrepreneurship and innovation system;
  • Advanced spoken and written English;
  • Minimum of three years’ professional experience in commercial matters, specifically the generation and promotion of real (non-financial) foreign investment;
  • Minimum of two years’ work experience in North America or directly related with this market.
  • Experience in the management and/or administration of economic and international trade affairs will be an advantage.
