During the last stage of their tour of the Middle East, InvestChile Director Andrés Rodríguez Rowe and International Economic Affairs Undersecretary Rodrigo Yáñez Benítez held a series of meetings in Qatar with the aim of strengthening economic ties between the two nations.

The high-level agenda included a presentation by InvestChile to Qatar Investment Authority fund CEO Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al-Mahmoud regarding investment opportunities in Chile, including Chile´s potential with respect to public tenders in the fields of infrastructure and clean energy and the green hydrogen business.

“The Qatar Investment Authority is a sovereign wealth fund with more than US$295 billion in assets, which are invested in North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. Its presence in Latin America is limited to Brazil at present, so we would be very pleased if it agreed to invest in Chile,” said Mr. Rodríguez.

The delegation also met the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Sultan bin Rashid Al-Khater. In both meetings, the authorities highlighted the cooperation and business opportunities between the two countries, with a view to boosting bilateral trade and investment.

Finally, acting Head of InvestChile’s Investment Promotion Division Salvatore Di Giovanni held a working meeting with the investment promotion agency of Qatar, Invest Qatar, to discuss collaboration with InvestChile and the challenges that the pandemic has posed for investment promotion.
