What is the procedure for registering a brand in Chile and which are the corresponding authorities?

The National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI) is the body responsible for administering industrial property rights in Chile and providing the related services. The procedure for registering a brand in Chile comprises three basic stages:

1. Presentation of an application and evaluation of its formal aspects. The application may be presented physically at INAPI’s offices (Av. Libertador Bernardo O´Higgins 194, 1st floor, Monday-Friday, 9am-2pm) or online (www.inapi.cl).

2. Publication of an extract in the Diario Oficial (Official Gazette).

3. Evaluation of the content of the application by INAPI.

For further information, see the website of the National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI): www.inapi.cl.

What is the procedure for registering a “.cl” domain?

A “.cl” domain can only be registered through the website of NIC Chile (www.nic.cl). The cost depends on the number of years of coverage sought.
