Chile launches call for Business Innovation and R&D in Food

The call for Business Innovation and R&D in Food by Chile’s Economic Development Agency (CORFO) and Transforma Alimentos (“Transform Food”) is open until Wednesday 4 October 2017 at 12:00 hours. The initiative is supported by the Strategic Investment Fund and seeks to mitigate gaps in relation to the development of technological innovations and the strengthening of associations for the sophistication of business innovation processes within the national food industry.

Transforma Alimentos has raised four specific challenges for this call: (i) the development of ingredients and complex foods with high added value, (ii) the recovery of wastes and sub-products of aquaculture and agro-industrial origin, (iii) innovation in packaging and packaging materials for the food industry and (iv) innovation in processes and technological services for the food industry. In all these challenges the technological risk must correspond to technical difficulties and complexities in the development of a project with probability of failure or error in the overall development of a product, process or system in which, in spite of controlling the risk variables, these remain latent and may cause the project to fail.

The call has three categories:

Prototypes of Innovation in Products and/or Processes, which co-funds projects which involve the development of new or significantly improved products (goods, services) and/or processes until the prototype phase. Funds up to 70% of total project cost with a subsidy cap of 60,000,000 Chilean pesos.

Technological Contracts for Innovation, which promotes links and collaboration between companies and entities that provide knowledge (R&D) to solve a challenge or opportunity with a high component of R&D, creating transfer of knowledge and of technology (technological capacities and innovation). Funds up to 70% of total project cost with subsidy cap of 200,000,000 Chilean pesos.

Validation and Packaging of Innovations, which co-funds projects that involve the development of new or significantly improved products (goods, services) and/or processes, from the prototype phase until validation and packaging. Funds up to 70% of total project cost with subsidy cap of 200,000,000 Chilean pesos.

All companies that wish to apply are invited to look at the bidding rules of the three categories and send queries to innovacionempresarial@corfo.cl
