The Biolatam fair took place on November 16-17 in Santiago’s Centro Parque event center.

Over 340 executives from the life sciences area attended the 2015 Biolatam fair held in Santiago on November 16-17. The event was organized by the Chilean Association of Biotechnology Companies (ASEMBIO), the Spanish Association of Biocompanies (ASEBIO) and EBD Group and was supported by the ProChile export promotion agency through its Chilebiotech initiative which groups together the country’s biotechnology companies.

During both days of the fair, the Foreign Investment Committee (CIEChile) had a stand at which it provided potential investors with information about the principal opportunities Chile offers for R&D and scientific research.

The fair was inaugurated by Katia Trusich, Chile’s Undersecretary of Economy, Rafael Sabat, acting director of ProChile, Arturo Covarrubias, president of ASEMBIO, Regina Revilla, president of ASEBIO, Anna Chrisman, director of EBD Group, and Spain’s Secretary of State for Research, Development and Innovation, María Carmen Vela Olmo.

Rafael Sabat emphasized that “we are here today to support a highly sophisticated industry with high-level human capital which, through its research, makes a significant contribution to the growth of other sectors that are key for our country such as forestry, aquaculture, agriculture and mining.”

The biotechnology companies participating in the fair were characterized by their great diversity. During its two days, the fair brought together Ibero-America’s main biotechnology companies and institutions from the pharmaceutical, food, cosmetics, veterinary, chemical, energy and other sectors in a bid to foster the development of science and technology through conferences, one-on-one meetings, partnering events and a trade exhibition.

As part of its activities, CIEChile actively promotes the installation of overseas technology and innovation companies in Chile. This year, it participated in a roadshow in the United States to promote investment opportunities in Chile in the health science and technology sector. In addition, it has signed cooperation agreements with R&D centers with operations in Chile, including those of Fraunhofer and Ewos.
