The second version of Chile Week China, which is taking place in China between August 28 and September 2, began with a range of activities led by the promotion of Chilean food products.

The 200-strong Chilean delegation of businesspeople, representatives of business associations and government authorities is led by former President Eduardo.

“After 46 years of relations with China and ten years of our Free Trade Agreement, we are seeing that the wager and challenge of Chile in China have been a success and, with our products, we have been able to penetrate a large part of the consumption this country needs,” said former President Eduardo Frei, head of the Chilean delegation in China.

The Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Furche, added that these results “show that our aim of doubling Chile’s food exports over the next ten or twelve years, before the end of the next decade, depends fundamentally on what we are able to do in China.”

Investment promotion

InvestChile organized sector lunches on energy, agribusiness, mining and telecommunications, which were led, respectively, by former President Frei; Agriculture Minister Carlos Furche and DIRECON’s Director General, Andrés Rebolledo; the Executive Director of COCHILCO, Sergio Hernández; and Undersecretary for Telecommunications Pedro Huichalaf.

Over 60 companies and investors from the Guangdong Region attended these events at which they were able to learn about the investment opportunities available in Chile and the positive prospects for these four sectors. The companies included SPIC, China Gezhouba Group, Guangdong Rising Assets Management Co., Guangdong Solid State Lighting Industry Innovation Center and Jiangsu Yanghe Distillery Co.
