Amazon Web Services inaugurates its offices in Chile

In this way, the company is expanding its operations in Chile as a supplier of cloud computing services.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has opened its first offices in Chile. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Minister of Economy, Economic Development and Tourism, Luis Felipe Céspedes, the United States Ambassador to Chile, Carol Z. Perez, and the director of InvestChile, Carlos Álvarez, as well as Marcos Grilanda, Regional Manager of AWS, and Jeff Kratz, Head of Public Sector for Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada at AWS.

The company, a cloud platform specialist, offers IT, storage, database, analytical, mobile, Internet of things and business application services. AWS was already providing business support services to companies of all different sizes in Chile, whom it will now serve through the Santiago office. As part of its expansion, AWS will also be hiring specialized professionals for a range of sales, public sector, marketing and technical engineering posts based in Chile.

The new office will serve as a local base for account managers, solution architects, partner managers, support staff and other personnel so that clients can work directly with AWS in their own configuration and language.

Ready availability of talent

Economy Minister Luis Felipe Céspedes highlighted the installation of AWS in Chile as an important part of its presence in the region. He indicated that “as a government, we are very happy to see companies of this type making a commitment to Chile; this demonstrates the potential we can develop as a country.” He also pointed out that technologies such as cloud platforms are fundamental for the “democratization” of entrepreneurship because they reduce costs and increase the competitiveness of smaller companies.

Marcos Grilanda indicated that “the decision to open an AWS office in Santiago reflects the rapid growth of the base of clients, the ready availability of talent in the country and the investment we are making to support cloud adoption in Chile.” Also speaking on behalf of AWS, Jeff Kratz thanked InvestChile for its support and drew attention to the company’s intention of maintaining an active presence in the country.

Carlos Álvarez underscored the importance of the installation of Amazon Web Services, noting that “the installation in Chile of a company that is a world leader in its field and whose focus is on technological innovation is also a recognition and sign of trust in our country and its forward-looking vision.”
